Limited Partners’ Meet – Insurance Companies

The Nepal Private Equity Association (NPEA), in collaboration with USAID Trade and Competitiveness, successfully hosted the ‘Limited Partners’ Meet’ on June 10, 2024, at Aloft Kathmandu, Thamel. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders from the private equity and insurance sectors to foster partnerships and explore investment opportunities, particularly focusing on the potential for insurance companies to become investors or limited partners in PEVC funds.

Welcome remarks were given by Mr. Siddhant Raj Pandey, Chairman of the NPEA. Highlights included presentations focused on the private equity and venture capital (PEVC) landscape by Dr. Manish Thapa, followed by experience sharing by Mr. Narayan Babu Lohani (CEO, Reliable Nepal Life Insurance ) and Mr. Vijay Bahadur Shah (CEO, Himalayan Everest Insurance) both companies with prior investments in private equity funds. An open floor discussion, moderated by Mr. Ujjwal Chand, B Tech, LLB, MBA, enabled participants to directly raise concerns and engage in interactive dialogue. The discussion addressed key topics such as regulatory hurdles, risk management, and exit strategies. Mr. Sujan Oli , President of the Society of Economic Journalists- Nepal (SEJON), also shared insights on the perspectives of journalists and media professionals regarding Nepal’s PEVC industry.

Chief Guest Dr. Nabaraj Adhikari (Senior Executive Director, Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON)) and Mr. Susil Dev Subedi (Director, NEPAL INSURANCE AUTHORITY (Insurance Regulatory)) addressed the attendees, emphasizing regulatory frameworks and investment opportunities. Closing remarks were delivered by Ms. Agnes Luz, Chief of Party, USAID Trade and Competitiveness.
